The Malaysia International Fashion Week 2008 begins end of this month. There’s much anticipation this year, with more than 23 countries strutting their creations in high fashion, writes ZUHAILA SEDEK.
PUT on your stilettos, make-up and your best clothes and step out in style this month in conjunction with the soon-to-be-held Malaysia International Fashion Week 2008 (M-IFW’08).
This year’s event has an impressive line up of participants from over 23 countries. See some of the best designer outfits from Russia, China, Australia, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam.
The event, which will be held from Nov 26 – 29, is in collaboration with the Global Fashion Alliance (GFA).
The GFA is an organisation that supports the growth of the fashion industry and also increases member access and participation with the Russia Fashion modeling job Week, the New York City Fashion Week, Air New Zealand Fashion Week, and Miami Fashion Week, all of which are members of GFA.
Among the designers who will be showcasing their collections here are Russia’s Serguei Teplov, Dorian Ho from Hong Kong, China’s Ding Yong and Malaysia’s Eric Choong, and Amir Luqman, as well as twin designers Azalea and Yasmin. The presence of international buyers and key fashion players further enhance the importance of this event.
This is the fifth time M-IFW’08 would be making yet another mark in the industry, and its organiser, the Malaysian International Fashion Alliance (MIFA) is optimistic that this year’s event is going to be larger than life.
MIFA’S chief executive officer, Syeba Yip, said it is important to get people outside the country to recognise the event, which hopefully, would generate more sales.
“We are pleased with the trust we’ve garnered from our partners in promoting Malaysia as one of the most recognised fashion hubs in the region,” Yip said at the MoU signing ceremony held recently between MIFA and its partners.
Aimed at using fashion as a platform to promote tourism and trade, M-IFW’08 has also been endorsed by Matrade.
To be held at The Gardens Hotel & Residences, Mifa has selected fashion models and celebrity Amber Chia as the face of M-IFW’08. Chia will play an ambassadorial role to help promote the local fashion industry abroad.
“We have lots of talent here and the industry has much to contribute to the tourism industry and the economy,” Chia said.
A council comprising several notable personalities is responsible for selecting the winner of the Designer of The Year and Model of The Year awards.
The Designer of The Year will win RM20,000 from Pelikan Malaysia and a trade and showcase trip to the Russian Fashion Week sponsored by Mifa.
The Model of The Year winner will receive an exclusive bag from Anya Hindmarch.

beyondblue works to raise awareness of depression, anxiety and related drug and alcohol problems and reduce the associated stigma in Australia.
LMFF will support beyondblue during the Festival by promoting the stories of people who have experienced depression and recovered, giving hope to others who may face a similar journey.
LMFF Festival Director Karen Webster comments: “The Festival provides an opportunity for beyondblue to communicate with hot model from varying backgrounds brought together by their interest in fashion. In 2008, over 362,000 people attended Festival activities.
To think that one in every five people is likely to experience depression or a related disorder at some stage of their lives reflects how vital it is that we raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of depression and encourage people to seek help early.”

When it comes to clothing do you usually stick to one particular style or should you be called a fashion model girls due to the tremendous amount of attention you pay to trends. 8. Stuck in time- This type of person does not remember the last time she bought a piece of clothing. She will not stop wearing her clothes until it has a hole in it. She should avoid using the same clothing for too many years until it comes back in style (20 years later).
9. Balanced Brianna- She probably has one of the other personal styles mentioned in this guide but, understands clearly the certain situations require she dresses up or down. She will not be hesitant to try a new style as long as it does not make her look like a fool.

How to get started
Considering that one possesses all the essential qualities, one has decided to go for a career in modelling. What next? Where to begin?
A would-be model should undertake thorough research on the great models industry, and gain as much knowledge about the industry as possible. This helps significantly in building a sense of judgement.
After this, the next important step is to go for a portfolio where fashion model needed. A portfolio is a set of photographs of the model, which helps in determining how photogenic he or she is.
